About the Principal, Ben Ricketts

“A lot of my work is about driving a case forward and standing up for my client, but also about being realistic if prospects are not 100%. In that case, I will provide the appropriate advice and seek a resolution via alternate means, such as negotiation or mediation.

My background

I grew up in rural NSW, before studying law and science at Griffith University in Brisbane.

I spent 14 years at HopgoodGanim lawyers in the Brisbane CBD, a great firm of 200 lawyers and support staff, worked predominantly in Commercial Dispute Resolution and Litigation. During my time I worked on commercial disputes for high net worth business owners and corporations, essentially taking the worry of legal fights off their shoulders and allowing them to get back to running their business.

My clients were corporation and family businesses involved in mining and gas, retail franchises, major shopping centres, large farming and pastoral operations, and building and construction.

I often represented clients for matters in the District and Supreme Courts of Queensland, and at times the Federal Court. Ultimately instructing barristers in large trials.

In 2017 I completed an MBA at UQ and became Senior In-House Counsel at JJ Richards & Sons, a privately owned and one of the largest companies in Australia operating in the waste and recycling industry.
